a coming of age feature film
Director's Statement
A determined sixteen-year-old with albinism (lack of pigment in the hair, skin, and eyes) makes it her mission to become a professional model in her hometown of Minneapolis, while attempting to go unnoticed in every other aspect of her teenage life.

Jasmine is a Star was filmed in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

I love that Jasmine is an ordinary teenage girl, bursting with individuality and
personality. She could be your sister, your niece, or the girl who lives down the street. Her
ambition is relentless and when someone tells her she can’t, she finds a way anyhow. I
I desperately wish I could have seen a film like Jasmine is a Star when I was growing up. It would have encouraged me. It would have empowered me. It would have made me feel less lonely. I’m honored to have made this film, for those who practiced smizing in the mirror, for those who wanted something so badly, they had to make it happen themselves.
